Synizesis (or syneresis~synaeresis) is that kind of crasis where a vowel is reduced to a semivowel in contact with another vowel so that the sequence becomes a diphthong.

Example: Ancient Greek ἀξιόεις (aksióeis) → αξιοῖς (aksioîs) ‘you approve’.
