Structure of the significative system

The semasiological description is divided according to principal syntactic categories, established as distribution classes:

adjective, noun, adposition, adverb, verb, verboid, clause, sentence.

Within each such category, subdivision is by constructions headed by an item of the category, ordered by increasing complexity, roughly upwards the vertical dimension of the diagram.

The onomasiological description is divided according to functional domains of language:

reference, predication, possession, illocution ...

Within each such domain, subdivision is according to coding strategies afforded by the language system, ordered from lexical-syntactic to morphological, roughly downwards the vertical dimension of the diagram.
