The future (from Latin tempus futurum ‘time to be’) is a tense locating the situation designated in a moment or period following topic time.

Some languages distinguish degrees of proximity/remoteness of the future: The immediate future (traditionally futurum proximum) is a future tense that locates a situation in the period starting with topic time and typically ending with the same or the following day. The remote future (traditionally futurum remotum) is a future that locates a situation in a period long after topic time.
