This is a sub-website of the website on linguistics. Its aim is to provide a comprehensive introduction into the conceptual and empirical field of grammaticalization.

Since it was prepared as lecture notes for a series of lectures on grammaticalization, it is, at least in part, organized more by didactic than by systematic principles. The initial sections address beginners, among them students who are unfamiliar with the European linguistic tradition.

Bibliographic information on work mentioned in the form of a short reference like Lehmann 2015 in the running text is provided in two places: Publications only relevant for the current page are listed at its bottom. All other publications are listed in the general bibliography, which is made available by an item of the navigation menu of every page.
